marcusid Scott, during a break, perhaps you can help me out. When I try to set a 5, 20 & 50 EMA on a 3 minute chart (which is what ST reccomends), using Trade Station charts, my lines are always inches below the candlesticks which make them worthless. Any ideas. The user defined inputs are (1) length (which is use for 5, 20, 50) and displace (which defaults to zero). I'l like to get my chart to look like yours and see what you see.

marcusid Before the alert, I created a stop to purchase ROST at 26.89. My average fill was 26.85. Any ideas? It was for a couple thousand shares--is that why I get filled at lower prices because the order itself takes out sellers and affects the price short term. marcusid yea, no slippage, but don't you risk not getting filled at all--especially if you are trading a few thousand shares. The order itself my get a partial fill, and then the balance (because of size) moves the stock a few cents lower and the balance isn't filled?
JQ I only use limits no bad fills here... alot of time it will retrace and fill!!!

marcusid I'm curious (and I know its a case by case decision) but how many of you genreally sell (a) at 1% profit; (b) take profits early; (c) stay in longer; or (d) sell 1/2 of the position at 1% and stay in longer with the other 1/2 looking for a greater profit on part of the original position (a strategy adopted by ST for those who want more than 1%, provided they move the stop up on the remainder to at or abo ve entry. Your thoughts please.

marcusid Many times I've seen stocks get to near 1% and then drop back, the profit lost. Of course there are those that keep going in the favored direction. I was just trying to do a little anectodal "back-testing" on you guys to see what strategy seems to have the best overall results. People on lunch--including Scott, feel free to chime in later.
marcusid I also note that, during the lunch hour (when volume drops), stocks tend to retrace their prior trend--or countertreand. Just as ROST is doing now. Any thoughts? Personally, I don't like to hold during the luch hour. Profits can evabrate or losses steepen.
JQ Marcus many factors will dictate: time of day ,stochs, market momentum, trends of sock, EMA's etc.
marcusid I think that, during low volume lunch, the specialits takes out a lot of orders on the books and manipulates the stock price a lot. I suppose one could play a stock using that strategy--follow the specialist?
JQ no question the first hour of the day is best for trading. I would caution trading after that ...Make sure ALL the conditions are in your favor before entering a trade!!

marcusid What is the philosphy about re-entering a position which was exited based on earlier criteria. Example: ROST just broke below 26.89, AGAIN. Do you ever consider going back in later in the day.

Scott-ST Moderator: but we never reenter a position the same direction in the session
