Gantra NTRI had some wierd postmarket trading after the earnings yesterday. It opened way up and then sold off below the close of the regular session and then gradually climbed about 1/2 way up from the postmarket peak. Major tug of war going on.
Newbie Any way to play that Gantra?
Gantra it was funny reading the yahoo forum during that. When it opened up the longs were screaming victory and saying the stock would go up huge. Then when it tanked the shorts were glowing with all sorts of justifications and predictions for more doom. LOL.

Gantra newbie, i was observing just to learn, really. I'm still conflicted about whether it's better to get out of a long term position before earnings and then buy in aftermarket if the earnings are super or to hold thru earnings and sell aftermarket if the earnings are a disappointment.
Newbie OK, I'm learning too, your just way ahead of me..
Gantra With NTRI, they actually halted trading aftermarket with the release of earnings. But i understand that sometimes trading continues as the earnings are released. In this case, one can put an order in as soon the news is released and try and get in early. This might be a way of playing some of those good earnings Releases. Ken/scott, any thoughts on this?

hiphugger Ken or Scott---- I got whipsawed REAL BAD on CKFR---when you moved up stop from #*.14 to 38.23 , I went 38.27 and got stopped out, then not realizing my shares were gone because you had so much action at the same time I sold my position again and ended up shorting the shares and really getting screwed by the time I realized what happened, had to close position at huge loss

johnboy hiphugger, when I started here, I found that focussing on 3 or 4 stocks only was best for me, somedays you get no fills, but that's ok. Or you can set stop limits for entries. Don't try for everything, that's where the problems come in....imho

davidber look at ckfr - last ticks - 40.81-40.50 that is what scares me and I would watch that before any entry. That is how I miss some of ken's calls

davidber I still do stupid things on occassion. I will double up positions if I think the move was abnormal. I did that with CKFR today and made a ton. I did it with QLGC and had I been patient (failing of mine) made a ton as well.
j5 lately i even stopped adding to winners (i think is just more complicated - once you start adding is very easy to lose track of position size and what it means in terms of price movements, etc)
conanboxer For me AAPL and GOOG are my over the X'mas trade... I will trade sell litle and buy little holding core positions

davidber I also stay away from Type A's - Sorry Scott, the track record doesn't seem to be there for me. Type A's typically have too little volume for me.
driver yes i am thinking of holding goog till over christmas also but i need to lock in some gains as this month has be terrible
hiphugger again, this only my 2nd day in this room and early entries seem clever----- I have yet to get a fill at designated trigger------ there is too many people with this system and volume spikes extreme volatility and gaps get away before i get filled

driver sometimes i get 20 cent swings with market orders at triggers...so i stay away for small caps
davidber hiphugger - you will find that early entries do seem clever, but then again, you maybe trying to hit that absolute mark. Any day that your board is green is a good day. It's better to bitch about missed profits than losses.

driver 500 seems to be the concensus of goog for short term, so im going to dump there. i do believe it will go up long term, esp christmas time. never know
driver S&P downgraded GOOG yesterday from buy to hold (4 to 3 outta 5) but it also raised short term to 500...mixed message there
