bearrally: joec, i like trade station

bearrally: used them for 10 yrs now

cleon: 16.4ish?

James-ST Moderator: 16.47

Ken-ST Moderator: 1% past your entry really

hawker: isnt LEND closed 38.36 stop?

cleon: boy, RACK needs a defib...

mtrade: close the entire position on dell

James-ST Moderator: You may be right....but their low price cost structure has killed them......HP is also killing them.

bearrally: you re going to scare a lot of people

James-ST Moderator: The real reason is they got rid of that kid who did their commercials....

bearrally: short dell at 29.65 and covered at 39.35

bearrally: james, lol

bulldogchip: appx went off and left us

Ken-ST Moderator: rack

Ken-ST Moderator: disregard that

bearrally: hey anyone buying real estate need to be careful

bearrally: my investors have been instructing us to start hiring forclosing staffs

James-ST Moderator: yeah bdc......nice one APPX.....but have to stick with strategies and wait for consolidation, would give a safe stop......otherwise would be chasing a runner that could easily reverse......

Ken-ST Moderator: thanks for the info bear

James-ST Moderator: lot of foreclosures coming bear?

Ken-ST Moderator: You can already tell the market is making a turn

Ken-ST Moderator: I see it in my area

Ken-ST Moderator: Neighbors are lowering their asking prices

bearrally: your area has always been a soft market since i've been in this businees

Ken-ST Moderator: Also taking a lot longer to sell

joecgoodman: from 3 million to 2.95 million?

bearrally: you guy has a highest conforming loan amoumt

bearrally: lol

hawker: we are stopped on Lend right?  38.36?

Ken-ST Moderator: Yes hawk

Ken-ST Moderator: sorry hawk that will be updated

Ken-ST Moderator: Stochastics coming up from oversold

mtrade: Ken what is the stop out price on lend

jy: Dell's a runner.

Ken-ST Moderator: 38.36

mtrade: ok thanks

Ken-ST Moderator: yw

James-ST Moderator: sorry mtrade.....stop sent.....scroll up

Ken-ST Moderator: Market now above the 5 ema , stochastics are up

Ken-ST Moderator: Downtrend broken.  Intraday market is now in sideways to uptrend

Ken-ST Moderator: 5 min EMAs have crossed down

Ken-ST Moderator: 20 EMA now below the 50 EMA

Ken-ST Moderator: gang, the action may start to slow

Ken-ST Moderator: being an FOMC day

cleon: what time is the meeting?

joecgoodman: 2:15 is the announcement I believe, but the meeting will start earlier

Ken-ST Moderator: Decision is out at 2:15

Hunter: : wheres CSC posted ?

mtrade: stop price on rack

Hunter: : oh thar it be ! lol

joecgoodman: dang it, RACK wants to do a little retracement here and our stops are just above the 50%.  Kinda scary.

James-ST Moderator: yeah hunter what are you talking about?

James-ST Moderator: lol, thanks

ahk: J remember the 41.18..................well waiting for those few extra bars was expensive

ahk: appx

James-ST Moderator: did you enter?

ahk: no

James-ST Moderator:

ahk: and I usually ignore you on those tyupes of trades!

Ken-ST Moderator: What type of trades?

ahk: the types where you want to see a few more bars

jy: Shorted CSTR yesterdy at closing 25.4 just exited at 24.39

James-ST Moderator: nice jy

jy: ty

James-ST Moderator: jy, bear, you guys holding ESRX short all the way?

James-ST Moderator: given enough time i think you guys will be ok......the problem with options though, is there is never enough time

jy: GOOG broke 380

James-ST Moderator: Unreal

Ken-ST Moderator: Note tha RACK is holding under its 5 EMA on 5 min

Ken-ST Moderator: We have now placed the stop just above the rally above the 5 ema

jy: Ken, is that the reason you tighted the stop even the stock has moved up in price ?

Ken-ST Moderator: Market is now in a sideways to uptrend

Ken-ST Moderator: we are looking to tighten now that we are moving close to the turn time and we are against the current trend

Ken-ST Moderator: the tightest area would be a rally point just above the 5 EMA area

jy: ic that point

Ken-ST Moderator: so, we are still giving the stock room to playout

Ken-ST Moderator: but keeping it tight and minimizing our risk

jy: ty

joecgoodman: will market makers see our stops just above the recent swing high and take them out on purpose? or is that all myth?

Ken-ST Moderator: more prevalent on listed stocks

Ken-ST Moderator: imo

Chris: Auto sales data will be reported today  could create some opportunities

Ken-ST Moderator: tx Chris, do you know what time?

Chris: I think around noon EST

joecgoodman: does listed stocks mean NYSE?

joecgoodman: and AMEX?

Ken-ST Moderator: ty

Ken-ST Moderator: yes joec

Ken-ST Moderator: symbols of 3 letters or less

joecgoodman: ok, thx

Ken-ST Moderator: Market testing the downtrending EMAs right now

joecgoodman: RACK is water drip torture right here

James-ST Moderator: DELL sub $400 laptop???  sure, that is how you address declining profits....make even cheaper computers......

cleon: ken/james, do you know if conditional orders on buys are visible to market makers like stop limits? or what's the real difference of using a conditional buy order vs. a buy stop limit, assuming both are setup as limit orders?

James-ST Moderator: CANCEL FURTHER TYPE B TRIGGERS TURN TIME

Ken-ST Moderator: That is usually setup on your computer

Ken-ST Moderator: Not seen by market makers

Ken-ST Moderator: conditional orders that is

cleon: cool, i'm having better luck with these than either market or stop orders (entries)

joecgoodman: James, the nice thing about those $399 laptops is that for only another $199 you can get a hard drive and RAM in it, too.

trdr45: but they can anticipate the ave. trdrs moves you need to keep that in mind

Ken-ST Moderator: Stops are different however

joecgoodman: trdr45, I agree.

cleon: right

joecgoodman: they know where traders place stops

James-ST Moderator: lol joec.....and for a little more you can get a power chord

joecgoodman: which you'll need cause they don't use batteries

James-ST Moderator:

cleon: i just bought a e510 from them for under $1k.  amazing...you can just search the web for discount codes - saved me $400

cleon: www.couponmountain.com

joecgoodman: nice tip, cleon

James-ST Moderator: ty cleon

johnboy: Heck I got my laptop for 9.99, although if you shake it, you lose all your memory........and no mouse, just two dials for left and right and up and down

cleon: also, btw, www.techforless.com is great for hardware (returns), guaranteed and warranteed.  Picked up a mass multiple triple-screen 19 for half price yesterday.  (don't worry, i'm not affiliated with either co.!)

joecgoodman: do they have any left, johnboy?

joecgoodman: mega thanks for that tip, cleon.  btw, cleon, every time I see your login name it makes me think Star Trek.

johnboy: sure, but be quick, christmas is coming...

cleon: literally half price of lowest available.  yes on joec, but limited invetorry.  might have to wait for what you want.  quad 17s available now but no more 19 triples as of yesterdy

cleon: LOL on star trek - not related ;)

joecgoodman: is a quad 17 four screens?

cleon: yes

cleon: four 17 inch flat panels (analog)

cleon: great site

joecgoodman: digitaltigers.com has nice stuff, very nice, but overpriced

James-ST Moderator: awesome cleon.....i am sure everyone in here is always looking for better computer setups for their trading

cleon: yeah, i setup my entire station for 1/2 my budget through dell's coupon, techforless, and some tech re-use of old stuff

James-ST Moderator: CSC......talking a gap up into no where.....nothing above and below it.....a break either way will be good......

cleon: of course, blew the savings yesterday on bad entries but i'll get used to it eventually :(

johnboy: cleon, should have blown the savings on some nice single malt............

cleon: did afterwards

Ken-ST Moderator: lol

joecgoodman: RACK is forming the thinnest descending triangle mathematically possible. dadgum fed day.

johnboy: lol

johnboy: well, I'll be away for a couple weeks, have a profitable November everyone and don't eat too much Halloween candy today

bearrally: cleon

joecgoodman: see ya johnboy

James-ST Moderator: hey jb where you off to?

James-ST Moderator: ah

cleon: y?

joecgoodman: stan48, r u having fun yet?

bearrally: how do you breakit down to 4 screen

James-ST Moderator: hahahahahh

bearrally: goog is unbelievable

cleon: two video cards with two outputs each, or a very high end card with four outputs but not practical

Ken-ST Moderator: Thanks for the links cleon

joecgoodman: dang, bearrally, you ain't akiddin'

bearrally: you can put 2 vidieo card?

cleon: just watch for analog vs. digital compatability and adapters, etc.

cleon: np on links

cleon: yes on cards, depedning on pc slot availability

joecgoodman: cleon, why is four outputs not practical....too expensive?

bearrally: thanks

hawker: I had 4 in my old computer..... thing was practically glowwing

James-ST Moderator: yes bear....once you go 2 video cards with 4 flat screens.....you will never be able to function again with one or even 2 screens

cleon: yes on four outputs, but it's all relative to your budget

cleon: aggree with james, i'm on three pcs right now and can't wait to consolidate

bearrally: i am on 2 screens now

bearrally: 2 20"

cleon: nice

James-ST Moderator: nice.....

joecgoodman: okay, Ken, the 5 ema has been working just as you said on RACK.  its moment of truth has arrived.

cleon: can't wait to go large screen LCD!

joecgoodman: me too, cleaon

Ken-ST Moderator: FOMC day gang, we will not be issuing any alerts until after the fed announcement at 2:15

bearrally: how do you stack them?

James-ST Moderator: Get a big L shaped desk.....

Ken-ST Moderator: yes joec

cleon: look at Mass Multiples website to see configurations

Ken-ST Moderator: stops can be easy

Ken-ST Moderator: well not easy

James-ST Moderator: or you can be like ken and make your own shelf to stack computers 2x2

cleon: http://www.massedi.com/

joecgoodman: Ken, what do you mean stops can be easy?

Ken-ST Moderator: but set at good levels if you look at the right things

Chris: The cheap way to get multi screens is to use Maxvista Server Software.  I have my desktop and laptop networked.  with this software, the laptop is an extension of the desktop screen

Ken-ST Moderator: sorry, not easy

Ken-ST Moderator: stops are the most difficult part of the trading strategy

Ken-ST Moderator: We explain the factors in the Market Assessment video

joecgoodman: I can certainly see that.

cleon: yeah, if you're on a tight budget, just buy used/old video cards and same with monitors.  anything a year or two old gets dirt cheap in that space.

Ken-ST Moderator: we keep it simple so that you can consistently identify the stop areas on your trades

Chris: www.maxvista.com   $29.95

cleon: ken, do you consider 20/80 oversold/overbought on stochastics?

James-ST Moderator: ty chris

James-ST Moderator: good info

Ken-ST Moderator: yes we look at that

Ken-ST Moderator: we look at that when assessing the market trend

cleon: k, just verifying numbers - i haven't worked with indicators too much

cleon: btw, last comment on station setups.  the beauty of multiple monitors is ONE keyboard, and ONE mouse - i.e., no typing in, or mousing quickly into the wrong pc...

James-ST Moderator: yep

joecgoodman: would it be ill advised to tighten RACK to 16.77 or so here?  I can be patient and leave my stop where it is, but only with some hand-holding. :-)

James-ST Moderator: keep same stop joec

joecgoodman: k

Ken-ST Moderator: you dont want to tighten to level within a range

Ken-ST Moderator: meaningless moves could get you stopped

joecgoodman: just what I needed to hear....thanks.

alaska: chris maxvista's website is closed for some reason

bulldogchip: Lend goes down now...arghhh

Ken-ST Moderator: but no matter where you place your stop joec.....

Ken-ST Moderator: you will be profitable

joecgoodman: can you elaborate?  that seems counter to my current understanding.

Chris: I typed it wrong -- it's maxivista   with an "i" www.maxivista.com

cleon: positive or negative LOL

joecgoodman: I feel like I've been too tight on my stops in the past.

Ken-ST Moderator: lol

Ken-ST Moderator: yup either negative or positive

joecgoodman: YOU GOT ME!!!!!!

Ken-ST Moderator: We look at two things for stops

Ken-ST Moderator: resistance/support areas and MAs area

Ken-ST Moderator: we look for two factors to set

Ken-ST Moderator: depending on market conditions we identify three possible areas for the stops

Ken-ST Moderator: Chris, Im showing the auto sales report out at 4:00 pm today, but I may be wrong

Ken-ST Moderator: The stops are the most important part of the trade plan

Ken-ST Moderator: it can make or break a successful strategy

Ken-ST Moderator: we strongly sugges the Market Assessment Video for this information

Ken-ST Moderator: it will help you to assess the market trends

Ken-ST Moderator: Hi Mark

Ken-ST Moderator: ok gang we are in the lunch period

Ken-ST Moderator: Please consider refraining from trading

Ken-ST Moderator: during this time

Ken-ST Moderator: It is FOMC day where the market often goes into a funk

Ken-ST Moderator: Furthermore, lunch is the most difficult time of day to trade

DonUrsulo: thx everybody, my first trading day at ST. DELL 1% - and LEND 1% (I ignored the 2nd stop.. probably a newbie mistake... was hungry for 1%..! see you tomorrow. Don Ursulo from Costa Rica

Ken-ST Moderator: Cool Don

Ken-ST Moderator: good to have you

Ken-ST Moderator: wtg

cleon: time for breakfast...

Ken-ST Moderator: cleon where are you?

cleon: denver, just haven't eaten yet

steveg: rack almost done knock on wood

Ken-ST Moderator: We usually scan for Type C opportunities during the lunch period but we will not issue any today

Ken-ST Moderator: FOMC

Chris: how long is lunch period?

Ken-ST Moderator: I have yet to go to Denver, but really want to go there

Ken-ST Moderator: That will be our next family trip perhaps

Ken-ST Moderator: Chris, lunch is normally until 1:00 - 1:30

Ken-ST Moderator: however today we will refrain from any alerts until 2:15

Ken-ST Moderator: due to the fed meeting

Ken-ST Moderator: Come on RACK, take out that 16.50 round number support

cleon: Great place to visit - weather is fantastick 90% of time.  Second highest rate of sunshine days next to your home town I believe (hawaii).

Ken-ST Moderator: gp I think it was steve

mtrade: exit price on rack

steveg: you better knock on wood

Ken-ST Moderator: lol joec

joecgoodman: :-)

Ken-ST Moderator: any questions?

Ken-ST Moderator: For those who are new here, we divide the trading day into three periods, Morning, Lunch, and Afternoon

kimmron: hi everybody. we are back

Ken-ST Moderator: Morning is our most active and most profitable 9:30 - 11:00

Ken-ST Moderator: Lunch :  lowest success rate in general 11:00 - 1:00

Ken-ST Moderator: Afternoon:  1:00 - 3:30

Chris: Does volume dry up during lunch?

mtrade: Ken what is the exit price on rack

Ken-ST Moderator: we suggest 1% past your entry

cleon: one more order question - a limit order will always trade at the limit, or a more favorable price, correct?  i.e., on  a SHORT, you could theoretically place a LIMIT order to BUY vs. a STOP LIMIT and end up covering at your target or better?  just want to make sure i've got it down pat.  thx.  then i'm off to breakfast - LOL

Ken-ST Moderator: Yes cleon, Limit will fill you at that price or better

steveg anyone know the exact time of the FOMC announce?

Ken-ST Moderator: If there is something better, Direct Access will try and get you that price

cleon regardless of direction, i.e., it's position-friendly short vs. long

Ken-ST Moderator: 2:15 pm est steveg

steveg thx ken

Ken-ST Moderator: Not sure what you mean by that cleon

joecgoodman mtrade, if you took partial profits on RACK with the room at 1%, you then moved your stop to break even on the remainder, right?

cleon i think that's why i'm stil hung up on the difference in benefit between a stop limit vs. limit.  i guess a stop limit would be preferable if you are waiting for a breakout and going long, right?

cleon otherwise, a limit would have you buy earlier, considering it more beneficial on a long? sry for so many order questions!

James-ST Moderator: For the new guys here, we strongly suggest that a 5 minute candlestick chart of the SPX be kept open to give you a visual of current market conditions, overlay this chart with 5, 20 and 50 ema and slow stochastics.  You will find that this will help you with your personal daytrading, giving you the “heartbeat” of the market.

James-ST Moderator: hey bearrally, are you taking on GOOG anytime soon?

cleon not a question, but a sanity check, ken, i'm finding the best entries to be when i use conditional orders with discretionary limits - otherwise i get no fill on limit entries and get bad fills on market orders because it moves faster than i can react - not the broker in this case, user error.  does my approach make sense, or is there a downfall to 'automating' the entry via conditional and discretionary limit (for entry price control)

cleon or james for that matter

Ken-ST Moderator: its all a matter or preference.

kimmron has entered DayTrading Chat

cleon LOL, cheap answer! anyway, thanks guys, i've probably read 40 books in the last two months, all the classics, etc., and gotten more out of tactics in the 1 week that i've been part of this group!

Ken-ST Moderator: Some may prefer to use a limit order to cap the amount of slippage

cleon that's what i mean by limit with discretionary

Ken-ST Moderator: you may opt for something a little loose to give you a good chance of getting in while not letting it get too far ahead

cleon limit + .05, etc.

Ken-ST Moderator: the thing is cleon you will need to be flexible

Ken-ST Moderator: .05 on dell is a lot

cleon i'm basing the discretionary part on the price, i.e., 20% of profit potential (in this case of the 1% move)

Ken-ST Moderator: .05 on GOOG is very tight

Ken-ST Moderator: It all depends on the price of the stock and its volatlity, liquidity

Ken-ST Moderator: again, the profit potential we are lookinig for is a minimum of 1%

cleon i am using .10 (25%) 0n a 40 price stock, etc.  e.g., 20-20% of the profit potential is my discretionary

Ken-ST Moderator: we suggest taking 1% past your entry

cleon 20-25%

Ken-ST Moderator: we are just showing what kind of effect 1% has on your portfolio

cleon ok, we're saying the same thing, thx

Ken-ST Moderator: yes

Ken-ST Moderator: good

James-ST Moderator: For the new guys here.....feel free to ask questions.....also, you may open private chat with one of the moderators if you would like to discuss things in private.

James-ST Moderator: yes cleon good idea......secondary exit is up to the trader......some use trailing stops, some find resistance levels on the way into the money, others use closes above the emas.......

Chris the company I used to work for bought Dell laptops exclusively.  I went through one about every 6 months

cleon wish it were my idea! from the tapes...

James-ST Moderator: yep cleon

cleon actually, that brings me to another question from the tapes, do you use the 1 1/2% rule for stops much? or more often technicals?

joecgoodman ooo, ooo, can I answer that?

cleon LOL - just curious what we're using and too lazy to check back on the previous trades :)

Ken-ST Moderator: lol joec

James-ST Moderator: Dell is going the way of the auto makers imo......they are confusing greater sales to success.....yet they are sacrificng profit margins to the point they aren't making much on all the greater sales

Ken-ST Moderator: Horsechack comes to mind

James-ST Moderator: Just Type A's cleon

joecgoodman 1.5% stops are for Type A trades, Klingon.

cleon INTC had a nice chart today also

joecgoodman the following supports Chris's prior comment about DELL's machines I suppose:  "Dell said it expected to post a profit of 25 cents per share for the third quarter, including charges of $450 million or 14 cents per share related to restructuring and a defective product."

cleon on that subject, anyone know any good books on 'daytrading' tactics?  not general investing/stocks?  Pring has one on TA setups for day trades but I haven't read it yet - wondering if anyone had some good choices.
